    notes

  • Definition (en): InstallShield is a proprietary software tool originally developed by The Stirling Group, a company founded in 1987 by Viresh Bhatia and Rick Harold. By 1990, the company was selling a number of products, amongst them InstallShield which was designed to create installation programs. By 1997, Stirling Technologies estimated that InstallShield was being used in 85-90% of all software products written for Windows. The majority of INX files included with an installation are named "setup.inx". This propriety file contains instructions and parameters for the installation.
